Katherine Billingham is the President of KB Re Solutions, Inc. and the Chair of the Board and CEO of the Re/Insurance Mediation Institute ("ReMedi"). She has over 30 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry as both in-house and outside counsel, as well as runoff/commutation consultant, much of which has concentrated in Asbestos and Environmental and other CGL exposures. She is an experienced certified arbitrator/mediator with ARIAS and also a certified Neutral (arbitrator) with the American Arbitration Association. Most of her appointments are as Umpire. She has participated in numerous arbitrations and mediations since 1982 in all capacities. Currently she teaches Mediation and Arbitration at the Charlotte School of Law.
From 1982 -1984 she litigated insurance defense claims in Tampa. She was thereafter recruited to join the runoff management team at Universal Reinsurance (Bellefonte) and from 1984 to 1990 she served as in-house counsel to the company and its affiliates. As Vice President and Secretary, she managed the commutation and runoff team, and supervised reinsurance and insurance litigation/arbitration.
In 1990 she started her own law firm, representing Universal Re and other reinsurers and insurers, and also began serving as arbitrator. She has focused much of her professional time since 2004 as an arbitrator and mediator.
Ms. Billingham also served as the Reinsurance Consultant to the Ohio Insurance Liquidation Department from 2004-2008. She also has given numerous presentations and written several articles on reinsurance arbitration, mediation and runoff/commutations.
